Our own John Mills, having taken over as WM of Royal Navy lodge in January 2020 was so inspired by the informative talk given by WBro Robin Evans on the work it takes to train a guide dog decided at that point he wanted this to be his charity of the year.
The mission would be to use the year to raise enough funds to name a guide dog and help fund this fantastic charity. Of course, Shortly after he announced this ambition, the world was struck by the Covid pandemic and suddenly the freemasonry and the world came to a sudden halt.
Despite the lack of meetings and masonic activity, John along with our charity steward Nigel Mann set about the task of raising these funds. This included members donating what would have been their normal dining fees and once lockdown measures were eased, a treasure hunt organised and executed by John.
Being able to meet again in September 21, we were able to add some more raffles and the proceeds of a successful ladies night held in November. A big thanks also goes to Dave Boswell & Reimar Simmonds of Lewises’ lodge who also helped towards the total by collecting £180 from the various visits they carried out.
